"Ha-ha! That's right! You just landed on the Island of Doctor Me!"

Anyone who has to deal with Jeff "Joker" Moreau's endless, frequently inappropriate wisecracks could be forgiven for not realizing that his nickname was originally meant to be ironic. His lifelong ambition to be a starship pilot was hampered early on by his Vrolik Syndrome, a genetic brittle-bone condition that makes it difficult for him to do very much without injury. Determined not to be held back by other peoples' pity or condescension, he threw himself into flight school with such intensity that even his professors made fun of him for never laughing or smiling--until he graduated at the top of his class, and went on to become, in his own perfectly accurate words, "the best damn helmsman in the Alliance fleet." Commander Jane Shepard, two-time (and counting) savior of the galaxy, wouldn't trust anyone but Joker to fly her ship.

These days, he lives up to his nickname with wry, tasteless cynicism, and if anyone realizes just how much stress and survivor's guilt his jokes are covering up, well, then he'll just have to joke harder.
